The property is about 12.1 miles southwest of Brenham (you know--Bluebell ice cream country where the cows think they are in heaven!). It is about an hour and fifteen minutes from our house and sixty-three minutes from 290 and the Beltway.

The house (really more of a cottage) was built in 1975. It is only about 1000 sq. ft with two bedrooms, one tiny bath, a living room/kitchen area and a large pantry/utility. We think the area around the front door and the utility/pantry area were probably the front and back porch at one time. Originally it had a wood burning stove where the fresh air intake is now. You can see the patched hole for the stovepipe in the ceiling. There is an old shed just out the back door that is filled with junk that we will have to clean up and repair. There is an outhouse and a play house that will have to be torn down because they are not structurally sound. There is a fairly new pole barn larger than a three car garage and a nice pump house. There is an old pump house and what we think is a hand dug shallow well that was probably used only to water the garden. There is a nice pond with a new pavilion. The "poacher" we found fishing the pond said there are catfish, bass and perch. I know he is right about the bass and perch since he had caught a string of them.

The grounds have not been kept up for a long time and there is a lot of work to be done. All the flower beds and garden areas that someone once spent a lot of effort on have filled with weeds and trees. Someone who shares my love of cactus had several rock edged cactus gardens. There is yucca and agave as well. Someone must have hauled rocks in by the tons to edge the beds and there are several rock piles with the rejects or extras.

There are pastures and jungles and trails here and there all over the property, which is only a little more that 30 acres despite Carl's insistence on referring to it as the North 40. There is a seasonal creek that crosses one end--a lovely area bordering the old garden that we think will make a great home site when we are ready to build and cute little hand built benches in odd places. There is a gravel road that starts at the front gate, curves around to the house, circles the house and forks off to the back gate.
